On Yom Kippur:
In General:
The focus is on repentance but it is not only of those things against God but also to reconcile with our friends, neighbors, relatives, co-workers, etc. It is a time to stand in for the church to ask forgiveness for the treatment of Israel by our church forefathers. Yom Kippur is also Israel's Day of Atonement and we need to pray for the nation of Israel especially at this time. Pray for their protection and that their leaders would make Biblical decisions. It is a time to thank God that we have found atonement through Yeshua. It is a time to pray and fast for our own lost relatives as well. Do acts of kindness.
Readings
Torah readings: Leviticus 16 / Num 29:7-11
Describes the Yom Kippur service and sacrifices
haftarah readings: Is 57:14-58:14 / Book of Jonah
Isaiah urges the Jewish People to return to Hashem through good deeds, kindness and sincere Teshuvah. The message of Jonah is actually a timeless lesson in the power of Teshuva and G-d’s desire to help man rather than punish him.
Prayers:
Shecheyanu Barukh atah Adonai, Eloheinu, melekh ha'olam Blessed are you, L-rd, our G-d, king of the universe shehecheyanu v'kiyimanu v'higi'anu laz'man hazeh. And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words which I command you this day shall be in your heart. And you shall carefully teach them to your sons, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. And you shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. And you shall write them upon the posts of your house, and on your gates.
