Waging Spiritual Warfare” by Rabbi Ariel Ehrmantrout
This Weeks Torah Portion: “Ki Teitzei” meaning
“When You Go Out”
Dueteronomy 21:1o–25:19
HafTarah Isaiah 54:1-10
Priesthood Instructions: Judah (Jude)
“WAGING SPIRITUAL WARFARE
Today’s reading “Deuteronomy 23:4-7”
3 No Ammonite or Moabite or any of his descendants may enter the assembly of the LORD, even down to the tenth generation. 4 For they did not come to meet you with bread and water on your way when you came out of Egypt, and they hired Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in Aram Naharaim to pronounce a curse on you. 5 However, the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam but turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the LORD your God loves you. 6 Do not seek a treaty of friendship with them as long as you live.
1. In this Torah portion we see Moses laying out more instructions for the Israelites to keep upon their taking possession of the land of Promise that God had promised them. IN this portion, God lays out the instructions for who can and cannot come into what Moses calls “THE CONGREGATION OF THE LORD.” In this portion we see that YHVH prevents the descendency of the AMMONITES and the MOABITES from joining themselves to the “Congregation of the Lord” even after 10 generations have passed. And further, God lays out that our ansestors were not to make a covenant of peace with them AS LONG AS THEY LIVED. This section of Scripture has always baffled me–as it seems to lay out a difference between one people and another people. Though the Scripture says God is no “repector of persons”–and does not love one group above another. My real question has always been “Why would a loving God–who preaches “forgiveness”–tell us to not forgive this group?
Deuteronomy 10:17 says “ For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.
Acts 10 says “The next day Peter started out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa went along. The following day he arrived in Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends. As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. But Peter made him get up. “Stand up,” he said, “I am only a man myself.” Talking with him, Peter went inside and found a large gathering of people. He said to them: “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with a Gentile or visit him. But God has shown me that I should not call any man impure or unclean. So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection. May I ask why you sent for me?” Cornelius answered: “Four days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothes stood before me and said, ‘Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor. Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, who lives by the sea.’ So I sent for you immediately, and it was good of you to come. Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us.” Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right.
A. Hidden deep in this Torah portion is a key to making war in the Spirit, that if you grasp it today, will set you free in your life and provide for you power in prayer that you have not ever known before previously. We know that we are in a battle–and that battle is for the mind–and the battle is between the “SONS OF GREECE” or GRECO-ROMAN religious training–and the “GOD OF ABRAHAM, ISAAC and JACOB” and Hebrew thought. In the Greek tradition, we were told that LOVE was allowing people to do “whatever they felt was best.” Jesus came and freed us from the TORAH–through His fulfillment of the Torah—so now we were left to decide what FREEDOM MEANT–and how that applied to Love. But the Hebrew mindset–that you must know as EPHRAIM–that will DEFEAT THE FOES OF THE HEBREW MINDSET–Tells you exactly what love is–that loving GOD and YOUR NEIGHBOR MEANS–to KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS.
1 John 5:2-3 says “2This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome
Psalm 19:7-11 says ” 7 The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. 8 The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. 9 The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous. 10 They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. 11 By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
1 John 3:19-21 says “19We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, “I love God,” yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.
B. So it is hard for us to understand when we look at Torah portions like this one–and it is for Theologians as well–and so they tell us that this is done away with–and they hide under the cloak of EVANGELICAL DISPENSATIONALISM. However–this cannot be the case. The WORD OF GOD CANNOT BE DONE AWAY WITH. IT CANNOT BE BROKEN AND IT DOES NOT CONTRADICT ITSELF. So what is the thing that we are missing? What we are missing is an eternal principle–one that God is laying out here for the Children of Israel–and if we understand it–then it will set us free to STOP the ENEMY from stealing things from our life. It will STOP the darkness from prevailing over us–now that we are living a life of obedience to the LORD through the Torah: God’s teaching and instruction.
Colosians 1:12-14 says “12giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
1 Thessolonians 5:4-5 says “4But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.”
C. We are taught under the Greek system of religion–to FORGIVE OUR ENEMIES. And I agree wholeheartedly–WE ARE TO FORGIVE “OUR” ENEMIES. But what God is laying out in this Torah portion is the prescription for identifying who “YOUR ENEMY” IS–and WHO “GODS ENEMIES” ARE. We are to forgive our neighbor when they sin against us, but we are NOT to forgive GODS ENEMIES when they are entering in to STEAL–to KILL or to DESTROY what GOD has committed to doing by HIS covenant promises. Far too often we loose and permit our own defeat–by “FORGIVING” God’s Enenmies-and acting like they are OUR ENEMIES. Remember–your is NOT against flesh and blood–but against PRINCIPALITIES and POWERS and RULERS OF THE POWER OF THE AIR–these are GODS ENEMIES. God is Spirit–and these are spirit based entities.
John 10:10 says “10The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
James 4:4 says “4You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
D. So how do you know the difference between an ENEMY OF GOD and and ENEMY OF MAN? How are we supposed to defeat and ENEMY that we cannot recognize? The simple fact is–that GOD’S ENEMY–HASATAN–IS DEFEATED. He roams on the outskirts of the Body of Messiah–that is the NATION CALLED “ISRAEL”–looking for whom he MAY devour. God’s enemies are enemies that have an agenda outside TORAH–outside seeing TORAH fulfilled in EVERY AREA OF YOUR LIFE.
Psalm 66:3 says “3 Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you.”
Psalm 68:1 says “1 May God arise, may his enemies be scattered; may his foes flee before him.”
Psalm 68:21 says “21 Surely God will crush the heads of his enemies, the hairy crowns of those who go on in their sins.”
THE TORAH PROMISES Examples of GOD’S ENEMIES
1. God promises to be YOUR PROVIDER Attacks against YOUR FINANCES
2. God promises you HEALING Attacks on YOUR HEALTH
3. God promises you PROTECTION Anything that makes you AFRAID
Simply put–the ANY PROBLEM-THAT RISES UP AGAINST WHAT TORAH SAYS ABOUT YOU—IS GOD’S ENEMY!
EXAMPLES OF “YOUR ENEMIES” YOUR RESPONSE__
When people speak ill of you FORGIVE THEM
When people mistreat you FORGIVE THEM
When people insult you FORGIVE THEM
When people abandon you FORGIVE THEM
E. Remember–now that you are WALKING in the LIFESTYLE of YESHUA-{Name of}-Jesus the Messiah, and keeping the commands of God–anything that stands against God’s promises in your life is LIKENED UNTO an AMMONITE and a MOABITE. The Ammonites and the Moabites were COUSINS to ISRAEL–yet they DID NOT bring the ISRAELITES FOOD and WATER = or PROVISION–when ISRAEL WAS EXITING EGYPT. Their failure to supply the PROVISION for ISRAEL–on behalf of the GOD of ISRAEL–moved them from the THING GOD HAD CREATED THEM TO DO. ANYTHING in our life that attempts to CHANGE what GOD MADE IT TO DO–becomes and Enemy of God. Yeshua said, whatsoever you BIND–or ALLOW NOT TO OPERATE UNDER TORAH will be BOUND NOT TO OPERATE IN HEAVEN–and whatsoever you LOOSE–OR ALLOW TO OPERATE IN SIGHT OF TORAH–will be LOOSED TO OPERATE IN THE HEAVENS. Forgive “your” Enemies–even as you are forgiven–but WAR AGAINST THE ENEMIES OF GOD FOR ALL GENERATIONS TO COME!
2 Corinthians 10:3-6 says “3For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
THEN HE TELLS US WHAT THE STRONGHOLD IS:
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to (YHWH) Christ. And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete.”
Torah Portion: Ki Teitzei – When You Go Out
This Weeks Haftarah: Isaiah 54:1 – 54:10
Today’s Haftarah Message: “Days of Noah”
Isaiah 54:9 says “To me this is like the days of Noah, when I swore that the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth. So now I have sworn not to be angry with you, never to rebuke you again.”
I. Yeshua makes references to the “Days of Noah” in the section of Mathew when he references the coming of the Son of Man.
Matthew 24: 37 & 38: “37As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark”
A. When were/ or are the “Days of Noah”? It is critical to know this to understand what Yeshua is saying in Matthew 24. Peter provides an answer to when the “Days of Noah” were. It is the time that the Ark was being built – just before the flood.
I Peter 3:20 says: “20who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built.”
B. The Ark was designed to bring deliverance and safety to Noah AND HIS ENTIRE HOUSEHOLD.
Genesis 7:13 says: “On that very day Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark.”
Genesis 7:17 – 19 says: “17For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. 18 The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. 19 They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered.
II. In Contemporary Christianity, the Pastors teach that the “Days of Noah” will be a time on the earth when there will be evil, wickedness and man’s minds will be filled with evil thoughts.
Genesis 6:5 says: “The LORD saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.”
A. The problem with the above theory is that men have been wicked, evil, and disobedient from the time of Adam until today. In 6,000 years, has anything really changed that man has become less lawless, and or wicked – NO. The Pastors of Contemporary Christianity have gotten this one wrong. In their Greco-Roman Hellenized mindset, they are portraying the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as a God who will cast down lightning bolts from Heaven if His “subjects” are disobedient. The “Punishment” inflicted was proportional to offense committed. This is the Greek God Zeus from Greek mythology.
B. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob has no traits similar to that of the false god Zeus. In searching the Scriptures, the Scriptures portray the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as a God of everlasting kindness, and compassion – a God of deliverance and not judgment.
Isaiah 54:8 says: “In a surge of anger I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting kindness I will have compassion on you,” says the LORD your Redeemer”
III. “The Days of Noah” are all about being delivered in an Ark – NOT JUST OURSELVES, BUT OUR ENTIRE FAMILY through the obedience of Torah – God’s Teaching and Instruction, and trusting in the Righteousness of God (not our own Righteousness).
A. Noah did not depend on his own righteousness to deliver him from the flood waters, but he obeyed God, built the Ark, and he and his family were then delivered from the flood waters – even his rebellious and unfaithful son Ham.
Hebrews 11:7 says: “7By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.”
In the last days – before the Son of Man’s return – there will be two types of people, and you can distinguish them by how they live out their faith. They are as follows:
Group 1: Views “Jesus” as “Part” of the “Godhead,” Trinity, who came to pay for sins so that all men could come into the “Church;” and that “Jesus” was a “Greek Speaking God that left instructions for a covenant to replace all that went before and was conveyed to the nations in Greek;” this same “Greek Jesus” who this group claims that the Lord’s sent out ones, taught people to leave behind the “old” and “unessesary Jewish ways to enter into the new covenant where you can live and remain “Disobedient to the Torah” as long as you tithe 10% to the teacher, and buy his teachings on CD; support the building fund, show up for “Church” and lead people to “Jesus” to build the local “Chuch.”
Group 2: Views YHWH–God as having come in the Flesh who was one God and one God alone; His name was “not” Jesus, but “YahuShua.” That YahuShua was an ultra orthodox Jewish Rabbi and that he was and remains the “Hebrew Speaking God” who was and is obedient to the Torah in all He said and did. This Hebrew–this Jewish Rabbi YahuShua is the Torah come down from Heaven who dwelt among us; promising us full citizenship in His chosen people called “Israel” without foresaking naturally born Jews who are blessed of YHWH in all they do and they are now become out brothers and sisters.” That YHWH did ALREADY graft us in to the “Natural Olive Tree” called “Israel” and changing our nature from a pagan nature with Ishtar and Tammuz–[aka Easter and Christmas] to a “reborn”Jewish nature that keeps the Sabbath, Festivals and Feast Days of the Jewish Calendar. This YahuShua was and remains “Obedient to the Torah–because HE IS THE TORAH–and so TORAH CANNOT BE SET ASIDE AS GROUP ONE–The GREEK followers of YahuShua try to claimt to justify their harlotry of faith. YahuShua IS TORAH, and if He is in you, so too will you take on His Jewish lifestyle and live IN complete Torah. This group of naturally born Jews and reborn Jews, calls upon the LORD YHWH as their Righteousness.(see Jeremiah 23:5-6) They also do the pure religious works that YHWH God considers pure–for the sake of righteousness: caring for the poor, the orphan and the widow; even as YHWH does Himself.
Now all you have to do is be willing to ask Yourself – Which One Am I a part of. The way you answer this will determine if you are ready to enter the Arc as depicted in the story of Noah. Repent, before it is too late.
Shalom
