HA’AZINU - GIVE EAR
Deuteronomy 32:1-52
2 Samuel 22:1-51
Romans 10:14-21; 12:14-21
Hebrews 13:5-8
Revelation 2
Today, as we approach the Fall Feasts, believers are beginning to recognize that their identity and inheritance is in the land called Israel. They are coming to understand that Yahweh, through the Covenant given to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, appointed the land to them also as part of Israel. This is of critical importance. Many Nations are gathering to create a Palestinian state within the borders of Israel. This is Jacob’s land, and the land of our inheritance (Exodus 6:8; Deuteronomy 33:4).
“Yahweh divided their inheritance to the nations, when He separated the sons of Adam, He set the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the children of Israel. For Yahweh’s portion is His people; Jacob [Israel] is the place of His inheritance” (Deuteronomy 32:8-9).
The Witness of Heaven and Earth
Deuteronomy 32:1-4 “Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. Let my teaching drop as the rain, My speech distill as the dew, as raindrops on the tender herb, and as showers on the grass. For I proclaim the name of Yahweh: ascribe greatness to our God. He is the Rock, His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice, a God of truth and without injustice; righteous and upright is He.”
Moses calls heaven and earth to witness Yeshua’s words to the Israelite people that he had imparted to them over the last forty years. Just hours before his earthly life was to close, he passed on words of wisdom to a people he had called stubborn and rebellious – saying to them,
“Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations. Ask your father, [Torah] and he will show you; your elders [prophets], and they will tell you” (Deuteronomy 32:7).
Moses reminded the people that Yahweh protects and encircles His people, “He kept him as the apple of His eye, as an eagle stirs up its nest, hovers over its young, spreading out its wings, taking them up, carrying them on its wings, so Yahweh alone led him, and there was no foreign god with him” (Deuteronomy 32:10-12).
“He made him ride in the heights of the earth, that he might eat the produce of the fields; He made him draw honey from the rock, and oil from the flinty rock; curds from the cattle, and milk of the flock, with fat of lambs; and rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, with the choicest wheat; and you drank wine, the blood of the grapes” (Deuteronomy 32:13-14).
Moses retold how Yahweh provided for them and he spoke of their idolatry that had originally taken their parents and themselves into the wilderness those forty years, warning them that this would happen again if they did not honor and follow Yahweh’s Word, saying to them:
“Set your hearts on all the words which I testify among you today, which you shall command your children to be careful to observe - all the words of this law. For it [Mosaic Covenant] is not a futile thing for you, because it [the gospel, the Song of Moses/Mosaic Covenant, the Song of the Lamb] is your life, and by this word [Covenant] you shall prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to possess” (Deuteronomy 32:46-47).
When we embrace the instructions of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the Spirit of Yeshua, we enter into deeper intimacy with Him as He sees a pure reflection of Himself in His Bride. This face-to-face intimacy is likened to a Marriage Covenant. We who honor the biblical Shabbat are found by Yahweh ‘singing the Song of Moses,’ which is simply the wisdom of Yahweh, called Torah. This is the Song of the Lamb. Obedience to Yahweh is what looses Yeshua’s glory in His Bride’s heart as Yahweh defines love as obedience to His gospel. It is the wisdom of Moses carried within the Bride, the wise virgin, that presents her without spot or wrinkle in her gown to her Bridegroom on Yom Kippur, their wedding day (Matthew 25:1-13; Revelation 15:3).
The Holy Ones
With these last instructions, Moses turns his attention to the individual twelve tribes saying,
“Surely it is You [Yahweh] who love the people; all the holy ones are in Your hand. At Your feet they all bow down, and from You, receive instruction, the law that Moses gave us, the possession of the assembly of Jacob” (Deuteronomy 33:3-4 NIV).
Abraham’s seed, the children of Israel, are called the holy ones, the assembly of Jacob. The instructions Yahweh spoke to Moses at Mount Sinai are likened to a ketubah, a Wedding Covenant to the Bride, in the assembly of Jacob. If the people obeyed and kept her ketubah, then out of all nations the twelve tribes of Jacob (called Israel) would be Yahweh’s treasured possession, a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. The Bride of Yeshua and the priesthood of Yeshua are one and the same. The Bride was birthed from Yeshua’s pierced side at Calvary. She is the one who obeys and follows the Holy One of Israel all the days of her life (Isaiah 54:5; Exodus 19:5-6; 1 Peter 2:9).
The Prophetic Vision
After Moses blessed the twelve tribes, he climbed Mount Nebo and there Yahweh showed him the land from Gilead to Dan; all of Naphtali; the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh; and the land of Judah as far as the western sea; the Negev and the whole region from the Valley of Jericho; the City of Palms as far as Zoar. Yahweh said to him,
“This is the Land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, “I will give it to your descendants” (Deuteronomy 34:1-4, Galatians 3:7, 29).
Notice Yahweh spoke a prophetic Covenant promise over the land, and gave this vision to Moses as already having been conquered and settled by the twelve tribes of Israel. Yahweh is faithful to fulfill His oath to the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Genesis 15; 26:2-6; 28:13-16).
The Eternal Word
It was on Mount Nebo that Moses would die. Moses led the betrothed redeemed Bride of Israel through the wilderness and taught her how to walk in her redemption. Her obedience to Yahweh’s gospel is what matured her into His mighty army and led her to the very border ready to enter the Promised Land. Moses taught the Israelites in the wilderness (as he still does to this day) that the main enemy they confronted was really within themselves. They had allowed this self-rule to have influence over their community (James 4:1). Now that they were set apart from all dishonoring influence they were ready. Joshua would now take them into the Land as a mighty army where they could exercise these practiced principles to defeat the enemy before them. Here they would have the opportunity to perfect all the teaching and wisdom of Yahweh given to them by Moses.
Matthew 8:8-10 “The centurion answered and said, ‘Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.’ When Yeshua heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!’”
Ephesians 6:10-20 “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God [the gospel], that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God [the gospel], that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace [Torah]; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints - and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.”
The spirit of Elijah manifests in those who follow Moses and who have the testimony of Yeshua upon their lips. This is what leads the Bride into the Land where Yeshua’s Bridal Chamber is located. There is only one Bridal Chamber, and it is the city of Jerusalem!
Moses’ Life at a Hundred and Twenty Years
When Moses, the servant of Yahweh died, Yahweh buried him. At that time Moses was one hundred and twenty years old and still had his vision and strength! Moses’ body was not weak or diseased, as his years in company with the intimacy of his Bridegroom Yeshua had transformed him body, soul and spirit. All Israel mourned for Moses thirty days.
“Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom Yahweh knew face to face, who did all those miraculous signs and wonders. For no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel” (Deuteronomy 34:10-12).
Yahweh designed our bodies to be living gospel scrolls. The root of gospel in Hebrew is basar Strong’s #H1319 and in Greek is #G2097 meaning glad tidings, a good report. When good news is brought a feast with meat is prepared. The derivative of this Hebrew word is flesh (Strong’s #H1320) as in blood relations: bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh Genesis 2:23, and they shall become one flesh Genesis 2:24. As with Moses, the words of Yahweh etched upon our hearts and minds, become our very flesh and bone, transforming us body, soul and spirit into His physical attributes.
Isaiah 52:7 “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, Who proclaims peace, Who brings glad tidings of good things, Who proclaims salvation, Who says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’”
Romans 10:15 “And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!’”
The Song of Moses is the true shadow of the physical presence of Yeshua. Only the true Shepherd’s voice, will His Bride hear. This shadow is called the gospel, and it contains:
•The pattern of the Tabernacle on our heart
•The service of the royal priesthood
•The identity of the High Priest
•The inheritance of the Bride
•Instructions of how to celebrate His Feast Days, including His Shabbat
•Conduct instructions for the Bride and Bridegroom in His Kingdom
•Instructions on the dress code and foods to serve at His banquet
•Instructions to the keys that govern His Kingdom
•The blueprint of how to take possession of the land (spiritual and physical Israel)
•The knowledge, understanding and wisdom to live in His Sabbath Rest called eternity
These instructions, the gospel, are vital for the Bride to embrace. They were given before the beginning; before creation and are immortal. The gospel is the seed of the Kingdom of God (Heaven) and contains Yahweh’s roadmap – called the path of righteousness and the Highway of Holiness. It is this pathway, directed by the Holy Spirit/Ruach HaKodesh that will transform the Bride. This gospel was imparted to Abraham and is called the seed of Abraham. As partakers of the seed of Abraham we are betrothed, being transformed into Yeshua’s royal priesthood, preparing to serve Him in eternity forever (Mark 1:15; Galatians 3:8; Isaiah chapter 58).
Matthew 9:35 Then Jesus/Yeshua went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom [the same gospel that Abraham received and that Moses wrote down at Mount Sinai], and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
Matthew 13:3-9 “Then He spoke many things [about the gospel] to them in parables, saying: ‘Behold, a sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!’”
Matthew 13:18-23 “Therefore hear the parable of the sower [of the seed/gospel]: When anyone hears the word [the gospel] of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it [listens to do], who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”
Acts 3:25 “You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed [because Abraham believed and walked in the gospel of Yeshua he was called a righteous man]’” (James 2:23).
Yeshua’s Love Letter
When we are not taught to live according to the Song of Moses, Yeshua’s love letter to us, we are a lost people with no identity scattered like sheep among the nations. We can pray and pray and pray to Yahweh for a breakthrough in our lives, with no seemingly clear answer or direction from Him. We may have missed the ‘key’ that can unlock the potential for our answers and inheritance if we just look into His Word. We may have unwittingly overlooked the answer that is already written in His gospel – Genesis to Deuteronomy, which has been revealed in His testimony from Joshua to Revelation. Simply walking faithfully in His Torah will bind the enemy from robbing us and loosen Yahweh’s blessings to come upon us. When we choose to live by these instructions, the signs and wonders of His blessings answer all our prayers (Matthew 16:19).
Ecclesiastes 1:9-10 “That which has been is that which will be, and that which has been done is that which will be done. So, there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one might say, ‘See this, it is new?’ Already it has existed for ages which were before us.” (NAS)
2 Corinthians 3:3 “Clearly you [Believers] are an epistle [testament of the ancient written gospel] of Christ/Messiah, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is,of the heart.”
Yeshua choose to lay down His life to uphold the words He spoke to Moses at Mount Sinai (John 5:46-47). So too was Stephen’s life laid down as he stood before his accusers extolling that the Song of Moses and the Song of the Lamb were one and the same. Stephen knew heaven and earth were called as witness to the words given at Mount Sinai and that Yahweh’s Covenant was firmly established through Yeshua. Because Stephen walked and talked the truth, the law of sin and death had no hold on him. When Stephen was being brutally stoned under the direct orders of Rabbi Saul/Paul for declaring the truth of the gospel, heaven responded and opened up to him and he being full of the Spirit said,
“Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!” (Acts 7:20-60).
The door to Yahweh’s Heavenly Tabernacle opened and received him.
Later, after Stephen’s death, Rabbi Saul/Paul came to the same saving knowledge of the truth of Yeshua’s gospel; that the Song of Moses was indeed the Song of the Lamb. After that encounter on the road to Damascus he expounded Yeshua’s ancient gospel, the exact same gospel Moses revealed at Mount Sinai; for this he too was imprisoned and eventually put to death.
Acts 28:23 “So when they had appointed him [Paul] a day, many came to him at hislodging, to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God [a Hebrew idiom for Yeshua, as the physical manifestation of Yahweh in the flesh], persuading them concerning Jesus/Yeshua from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening.” (1 Peter 2:9-12)
Revelation 15:3 “They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying: ‘Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints!’”
The Sabbath Rest - the Mosaic Covenant - Called Today
Hebrews 3:7-4:16 “Therefore, as the Spirit of the Holy One [Yeshua] says: ‘Today, if you [Believer] will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of trial in the wilderness [at Mount Sinai], where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, and saw My works forty years. Therefore I was angry with that generation, and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, and they have not known My ways [My Gospel].’ So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest [Sabbath; Mosaic Covenant; Bridal Chamber, Land]’ (Psalm 95:7-11).
Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing [dishonoring His Kingdom ways] from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin [dishonoring Yahweh’s Torah]. For we have become partakers of Christ/Messiah if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, while it is said: ‘Today, if you will hear His voice [Torah at Mount Sinai], do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion’ (Psalm 95:7-8).
Therefore, since a promise [Covenant] remains of entering His rest [Sabbath/Land], let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the gospel [Mosaic Covenant] was preached to us as well as to them [Believers at Mount Sinai]; but the word [gospel] which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith [application of the Law of Liberty/Life] in those who heard it. For we who have believed [in His Torah] do enter that rest [Sabbath; Marriage Covenant], as He has said: ‘So I swore in My wrath, they shall not enter My rest,’ (Psalm 95:11) although the works [Yahweh’s wedding plans for His Bride] were finished from the foundation of the world. For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day [Messianic Era] in this way: ‘And God rested on the seventh day from all His works’ and again in this place: ‘They shall not enter My rest [Messianic Kingdom].’ Since therefore it [the gospel/Torah/Tree of Life] remains that some [remnant/the Bride] must enter it [the Wedding in the Messianic Era], and those to whom it [gospel/Torah] was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, again He designates a certain day, saying in David [Davidic Covenant], “Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said: ‘Today, if you will hear His voice [the gospel], do not harden your hearts.’ (Psalm 95:7-8) For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not afterward have spoken of another day [the Davidic Covenant] (James 1:25, 2:12).
For he who has entered His rest [the restored priesthood in Yeshua] has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience [dishonor Yahweh’s Words]. For the word of God [the gospel/Torah] is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account [on our wedding day/Yom Kippur]. Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Yeshua the Son of God, let us hold fast our [wedding] confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of needs.”
Revelation 2:7, 11, 17 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches/assemblies [the gospel]. To him who overcomes [The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil/the law of sin and death/the disorderly fleshly nature that dishonors Yahweh] I will give to eat from the Tree of Life [the Law of Life in Yeshua], which is in the midst of the Paradise of Yahweh. …He shall not be hurt by the second death. …To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.”
