During the 10 Days of Awe it is a very good idea as you reflect yourself to mikvah. Many fellowship will have a communal mikvah service.

We do offer the free mikvah service booklet in the free downloads.

Erev Yom Kippur

(Eve-at sundown which starts the new day- treat it like a Sabbath evening) after dinner you can recite with your family the Shema, Amidah

and the Al Chet together. Before you recite these three, the 24 hr.fast begins. So no nibbling through the service ;)

Yom Kippur:

You will be reading the Yom Kipper Service Booklet and you can celebrate it at anytime during the day. It takes about 2 hours to read, so assigned differnet readers to help you.

At sundown, when Yom Kipper is over. Then you can eat. Some people fast 1 or 2 meals and some fast the whole day the choice is yours. There are some that cant because they are on medications. That is okay.

Both Erev (Eve: the opening ceremony) and Yom Kippur is a solemn day, some dim lights, light candles and begin to read. It sets the mood of repentance. You can dim lights for both services.

On the morning of Yom Kuppur as you get ready for the service, some people prepare for the Feast by not showering, they won't wear make up, they wear white or light color clothes, they do not wear anything made of animal skins, and they go barefoot or wear socks when they enter the room where they will be reciting the yom Kipper book.

The choice is yours, these are traditions. And there is nothing wrong with traditions. Some are good. I did create a discussion called 'Newbies and the Fall Feasts' ck it out it may help you. The Yom Kipper Service booklet is available under Free Downloads. (pdf file) Print so everyone has a copy.

The Shema, Amidah and the Al Chet:

Shema

Hear, O Israel, the L-rd is our G-d, the L-rd is One.

Blessed be the name of the glory of His kingdom forever and ever.

You shall love the L-rd your G-d with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your might. And these words which I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them thoroughly to your children, and you shall speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road, when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign upon your arm, and they shall be for a reminder between your eyes. And you shall write them upon the doorposts of your house and upon your gates.

Amidah Prayers

(this is a tradition its up to you if you would like to recite these prayers or not)-

But they are beautiful and nothing wrong if you decided to do this part of the service.

1. THE GOD OF HISTORY:

Blessed are You, O Lord our God and God of our fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, the great, mighty and revered God, the Most High God who bestows loving kindnesses, the creator of all things, who remembers the good deeds of the patriarchs and in love will bring a redeemer to their children's children for his name's sake.
